I'm Gonna Love You for the Rest of My Life

My son, Ryan, is at an age where he's incredibly sensitive (he's almost five). The other night after I tucked him into bed, he said with tears welling up in his eyes, "Daddy, I'm gonna love you for the rest of my life, ok?

Man, I love that kid.

I Really Did Practice. I Really Did!

John came by tonight at 9:30 for my lesson. After practicing Hey Joe for a week now (perfectly, every time), I couldn't hit a clean chord tonight to save my life, and my timing was incredibly bad.

He must have thought I didn't practice at all. That sucks, because believe it or not, I put in a little extra practice this week just to impress him. I'm such a dork.

Anyway, my task this week is to practice Hey Joe more, using a different strum pattern for each measure in the chord progression. Also, he taught me the open position of the minor pentatonic scale, and he wants me to practice it in time using hammer-ons and pull-offs, which I have a terrible time with.

Finally, he's got me practicing vibratto. I think I must choke the shit out of the neck of the guitar because I can't seem to get my wrist to loosen up enough to have a beneficial effect on the vibrato sound.

Maybe with a couple hours of practice I'll feel more confident. Right now, I feel like I'll never sound like he does.
